Mark C. Rogers, M.D., M.B.A Executive Chairman Dr. Rogers received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center. Dr. Rogers completed a Pediatric Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston, a Cardiology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and an Anesthesiology and Critical Care Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Rogers began his medical career at Johns Hopkins University, where he spent 16 years and held a number of senior positions, including Distinguished Faculty Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Director of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Professor of Pediatrics. In his role as Associate Dean, Dr. Rogers founded a number of business ventures at Johns Hopkins and during his tenure at John Hopkins he attended The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania where he received an MBA. There is now an endowed Professorship at John Hopkins named for Dr. Rogers.
From 1992 to 1996, Dr. Rogers was Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs of Duke University Medical Center and Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer at Duke Hospital and Health Network. He was responsible for the overall administration of the 1,100-bed Duke Hospital and for creating the Duke Health Network, which encompasses clinical activities such as the development of Duke’s primary care network and Health Maintenance Organization. While at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Rogers was involved in designing strategic partnerships with business, especially with medical and pharmaceutical companies.
In addition to his medical and administrative duties, Dr. Rogers is the author of over 200 papers and 15 books. He has lectured around the world as an expert in intensive care of children and was a Fulbright Scholar in Yugoslavia in 1989. In 1995, Dr. Rogers was elected to the National Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Rogers was recruited from academia to become Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Chief Technology Officer of the Perkin–Elmer Corporation (now Applera–Celera). He was responsible for mergers, acquisitions and technological development in molecular biology. His area of expertise included DNA sequencing, gene _expression and protein analysis as well as other molecular tools vital for pharmaceutical discovery. From there, Dr. Rogers became President of Paramount Capital in June 1997, a company that specializes in biotechnology and biopharmaceutical venture capital financing, private equity placements and asset management.
Dr. Rogers has been a founder, officer and/or director of several public companies, including Cardiome Pharma Corp. (NASDAQ, Toronto Stock Exchange), Adherex Technologies Inc. (American Stock Exchange, Toronto Stock Exchange) and Antisoma plc (London Stock Exchange). Dr. Rogers was chairman of the board of directors of Aptamera Inc., a Louisville, Kentucky based oncology company that was acquired by Antisoma plc in February 2005.
Alan M. Ezrin, Ph.D. President and Chief Executive Officer Prior to joining Bradmer, Dr. Ezrin served as Chief Scientific Officer of Cardiome Pharma Corp. [TSX:COM, NASDAQ:CRME], where he played an integral role in the development of the company's lead drug candidate from early stage clinical trials through strategic partnership and NDA filing. Dr. Ezrin has more than 25 years of experience in research and business development in both the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors in the US and Canada.
Dr. Ezrin was with Sterling-Winthrop Research Group from 1982 to 1993, after which he joined Glycomed Inc. as Assistant Vice President of Experimental Therapeutics. In 1995, he joined RedCell Inc. as Vice President of Pre-Clinical Development leading to the restructuring of the firm in 1997 through the creation of ConjuChem Inc. At ConjuChem, Dr. Ezrin served as Chief Operating and Scientific Officer. He joined Cardiome Pharma Corp. in 2001 as its Chief Scientific Officer and played a vital role in the successful evolution of the firm to a leading cardiovascular company listed on the TSX and NASDAQ exchanges. Dr. Ezrin is extensively published in numerous scientific journals and holds numerous patents for inventions in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, he has raised substantial invested capital and facilitated numerous transactions and partnerships in the biotech sector.
Brian D. Brohman Chief Business Officer Prior to joining Bradmer, Mr. Brohman held the position of Chief Financial and Business Development Officer of Aptamera, Inc., leading that company’s fundraising and licensing activities beginning in February 2002 through its successful sale in February 2005. While at Aptamera, he helped secure partner relationships with commercial and research collaborators, and had primary responsibility for activities associated with the acquisition of Aptamera by Antisoma plc. Prior to Aptamera, Mr. Brohman served in a variety of corporate finance and business development roles during an 8-year tenure with Cordis Corp., a multi-billion dollar medical device division of Johnson & Johnson. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a BBA in Finance, Mr. Brohman has over 15 years experience in corporate finance and business development, including 11 years in the medical technology field.
Mr. Brohman's broad corporate finance experience in private and public companies spans the disciplines of strategic planning, venture capital funding, capital budgeting, treasury, risk management, financial reporting and investor relations. Since 1995, Mr. Brohman has specialized in the field of business development, and is a veteran of over 100 mergers, acquisitions, licensing and equity financing deals.
Paul J. Van Damme, M.B.A., C.A. Chief Financial Officer Mr. Van Damme has an extensive background in the life science sector with publicly-listed companies in both Canada and the United States. Prior to joining Bradmer, Mr. Van Damme held the senior finance position on the management team of three publicly traded life science companies, including Allelix Biopharmaceuticals Inc. He played a prominent role in the eventual sale of Allelix to NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., remaining as Vice-President, Finance for NPS in Canada. With over 25 years experience in corporate finance, he has been responsible for all aspects of corporate financial management and capital structuring for numerous companies.
Mr. Van Damme currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee of the Ontario Genomics Institute, as well as being a member of a number of professional associations including the Financial Executives International. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He obtained his Chartered Accountant designation from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked in both London and Toronto.
